SMS - Short Message Service

SMS (Short Message Service), often referred to as texting, sending text messages or text messaging, is the text communication component of a mobile phone. It allows the exchange of short messages between a fixed line or mobile phone devices. SMS messaging is the most widely used data application in the world with 2.4 billion active users, or 74% of all mobile phone owners.

Including spaces, text messages usually can't exceed more than 160 characters. SMS messages often use T9 predictive technology to make messaging faster and more efficient due to the lack of a full keyboard on most mobile phones.
